I am a black male and while that may seem like I come with a bias already, I am learning more about group dynamics and reasons for searching out people who can identify with you lived experience(s).I would suggest anyone read this book. This is an excellent book on racism and racial identity. It's very readable and would a great first book for someone just learning about the concepts of white privilege and institutional racism.The author walks the reader through the development of one's racial identity (both black and white) from pre-school through adulthood, with every point backed up with research. I think her section on "white identity" will be truly eye-opening to a lot of white people who read it. I've taken quite a few workshops related to white privilege and racism and the author did a nice job of compiling everything I've learned all into one book. She writes objectively, without anger and without trying to make the white reader feel guilty about being white.Although most of the book deals with black people and white people, there is a chapter that deals with other people of color. However, this book was written pre-9/11 - I think the section on people of Middle Eastern descent would have been different and perhaps longer if she had written it post-9/11.I wish I could make this book required reading for just about everyone. I originally bought it because I thought it would help me in raising my daughter (who is African American) but actually this book has valuable information that I can use with ALL of my kids to help them grow up to be conscientious citizens of the world.

This is my first year in the US, and I want to learn more about race issues here. This book is a great source of information, not only for race issues but also human rights in general. Easy to read and many fun examples. Her psychologist perspective is especially refreshing for me.

Beverly Daniel Tatum’s book, “Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?” provides insight into not only the question posed in the title, but also into the importance of creating dialogue about race. In the opening chapter, Tatum describes how from a young age, children are exposed to language, imagery, and behavior that teaches prejudice and contributes to the racist “smog” that we breathe in daily. She argues that although not all white people are overtly prejudice, collectively we assert our advantage through access to better schools, housing, jobs, and other opportunities. She explains that racism refers to the system based on this advantage, not simply an individual’s views on racism. Racism permeates the corporate, legal, educational, and commercial world. By describing the shaping of black and white identity throughout each phase of life, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, Tatum is effective in demonstrating the impact of racism on how we view ourselves and those around us. Her book is a call for action and discussion about privilege. Tatum argues that we should engage in both cross-racial and intra-racial dialogue because each has its own benefits and is constructive in its own way. Overall, I’d highly recommend this book if you want to learn more about the importance of creating meaningful conversation about race. I think her book is a must-read if you work with kids or have kids of your own because it is children who are really shaped by the way they see the topic of race discussed or avoided.

Overall I felt this book was alright but not as stellar as previous books by Mike Meyers. Initially I was delighted that this book was on my required course reading material as I bought upgrading and repairing PC's from Mike when I was younger to learn how to build a PC and really enjoyed the book and how detailed and thoughtfully laid out it was (even giving you history lessons) which made me laugh and oh and ah with interest. This book however, I feel is rather subpar in comparison. It seems to include most of the critical stuff you need to know but that's about it. No history lessons (which I enjoy) and no additional really nitty gritty detailed information on the how, when, where, and most importantly why with only a sprinkle of occasional humor to help. It certainly didn't resonate with me like my older book from him and I honestly remember very little from the book sadly enough which wasn't the case with upgrading and repairing in which I ended up reading it 4 times cover to cover just because it was fun and I learned new things I thought I had missed previously. This book doesn't do that, nor did it make learning networking as much fun or a neat history lesson like it could have which I missed. It was also super light on the humor and wasn't the most helpful on demystifying complex or convoluted concepts in networking. In fact I found some of these "explanations" extremely hard to follow, confusing, and vague (very uncharacteristic of Mike) and actually ended up having to turn to other resources for explanations and answers or more concise answers. Other parts of the book seemed to me to be entirely too winded for simple things or unnecessarily long as were a few chapters with no actually helpful elements, history or fun jokes to justify the added length.Overall I think this book needs re-worked and Mike needs to bring back his old flair which made me really enjoy previous books of his.

Outstanding book, easy to read, and I must say, almost entertaining. I hate to read manuals, and I usually go for the "Dummies" and/or "Idiots" books for knowledge. This book is great. The layout and content is what I like. I did borrow one of Mike Meyers' books (Guide toPC Troubleshooting) from my local library and liked it, so I bought this. I had also borrowed another author's book on the same networks subject and could not keep myself awake while reading it. Not a problem with this one.

I found this guide (and the lab manual that I also purchased previously) are a great help to me. You are not just reading and memorizing, you are getting practical, hands-on applications, quizzes, etc.....and the most wonderful "COLOR-FILLED" pictures. This book is much better than the previous study guide I purchased because all of the photos and illustrations were in black & white. In the black & white book you could not discern the differences between any of the expansion cards inside the system unit. I do not have an extra computer lying around that I can practice on and now I do not need one. The colors in this book are so vivid that its like opening up the case. Actually, the book is better because I do not have to worry about "ESD" damage when I touch the components in the book. But be careful, this book is Electrifying!! It is written in typical Mike Myers style and chocked full of information, tips, and tricks to understand, troubleshoot and get the most from your network. It is a great companion to all the other Mike Myers text books.

Information is good. Can't get answers to end of chapter tests so unless you have access to an instructor that is registered with this product, good luck. Mike Meyers will not respond to emails

Ehhhh. I've determined networking bores the ever living crud out of me. Book is ok, required for a class I'm taking. It has a digital version on the CD. It will get me through the class just fine, but I will definitely not be going into networking. Zzzzzzzz.

Given that, unlike many frustrating classes where your $200 book ends up being a $200 paperweight, the class I took was centered on this book, it was extraordinarily useful. The chapters are fairly short and concise, the vocabulary easy to find and understand, and overall, it made what could have been a very tedious class into a much more bearable one. Would recommend to anyone.

I used this book for my networking class and it did it's job. I don't know how well it is for actually getting your Network+ but I was able to answer questions that were gathered directly from the Network+ test on our exams without having to use any outside resource. The book came with a disc that has a PDF file which I loved using.Has very clean text and pictures that keeps learning fresh and not stale.

About the Author
Sarah Harding has been a Tibetan Buddhist translator and practitioner since 1974. She became a student of the late master Kalu Rinpoche, and in 1980, she completed the traditional three-year retreat under his guidance. Since then, she has been a teacher and translator. Her publications include Machik's Complete Explanation, The Treasury of Knowledge: Book Eight, and The Life and Revelations of Pema Lingpa. She is a fellow at the Tsadra Foundation and has been on the faculty of Naropa University for nearly twenty years.
