This is an excellent book, with direct and thorough explanations and examples for all of the topics it covers. It explains topics that the official guides and Hartl's book failed (for me, at least) to clarify. The only flaw I find is in how it restricts its coverage of testing to the out-of-the-box provisions of Minitest and fixtures; with the majority of Rails developers using Rspec and FactoryBot, I would have hoped that these would have at least been included in the examples, if not treated as the de facto standards.
Poorly written, missing steps, inaccurate info, the author is full of himself considering how much he is missing.
Great book for learning Rails. I'm a relatively experienced developer and thought is was succinct. Maybe a little advanced for a beginner.
This edition is supposed to feature Rails 5 but it is not thoroughly updated, the web site discussion for Playtime challenges are not updated since Rails 3 or something, the book is just not up to date in many areas and the flow is rather confusing, if you are a Rails novice you better start with Michael Hartl's Rails Tutorial, it will explain Rails much better and it will give you a great insight on current Rails development requirements like Bootstrap and other niceties.
Great book! Really helpful.
I couldn't even get through the installation. The way it tells me to do it leads to an error, and since there is no explanation of any of the commands it tells me to use, I have no idea how to troubleshoot.
